Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Time management is a crucial aspect of event planning, particularly during festivals where multiple activities must align seamlessly. Event planners are tasked with ensuring that schedules are adhered to, minimizing delays and optimizing the overall experience for attendees. In Wukari Local Government Area, Taraba State, festivals such as the traditional Wukari Yam Festival involve intricate planning due to the inclusion of cultural performances, communal feasts, and dignitaries’ attendance. Event planners play a pivotal role in mitigating time constraints, employing strategies such as detailed scheduling, real-time coordination, and contingency planning (Ibrahim & Musa, 2024). However, managing time constraints remains a significant challenge, often exacerbated by unforeseen delays, inadequate resources, and the complexity of coordinating large-scale events. This study examines the strategies employed by event planners in Wukari to manage time effectively and their impact on the success of festivals.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Despite the efforts of event planners, time constraints frequently disrupt festivals in Wukari, leading to delays, dissatisfaction among attendees, and logistical inefficiencies. Challenges such as poor communication, lack of adequate planning tools, and unforeseen circumstances hinder the smooth execution of schedules. These issues raise questions about the effectiveness of current time management practices and their impact on festival outcomes. This study seeks to address these concerns by analyzing the role of event planners in managing time constraints and identifying strategies for improvement.
